MUCCRI engages in packaging, communicating, and disseminating Climate Change information, knowledge products, and innovations to the wider public. A prime feature in our training and research activities is to provide domestic and regional policy makers with the necessary scientific support, technology, and guidance in adapting to and mitigating the impacts of Climate Change.

To prepare technical staff from central and local governments, policy and decision makers, practitioners and private sector professionals around the country adapt to the growing risks caused by a changing Climate, MUCCRI trains and equips these professionals and experts with knowledge and understanding of Climate Change that they can apply in many aspects of their lives.

The courses usually have intensive short period trainings, field trips, and sites tours to locations in the country that provide the best local examples of either mitigation or adaptation actions combating the impacts of Climate Change.

The immediate objective;


  • To equip participants are with knowledge and skills to effectively address Climate Change in the framework of natural resource management through their jobs.

Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI) together with support from the USAID/Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation Activity (ERICCA), conducted a 5-day short course on Climate Change and Natural Resources Management from 10 – 14th April 2017. The overall objective of the course was that climate change considerations are effectively integrated into natural resources management policy, programmes, projects and other community-based climate change response actions. The immediate objective is that all course participants are equipped with knowledge and skills to effectively address climate change in the framework of natural resource management through their jobs.

The training covered the following main topics:

  • Introducing climate change: the science, impacts and approaches to address climate change
  • Energy, Forestry and Climate Change
  • Approaches to building climate resilient natural resource management
  • Climate change and water resource management
  • Approaches to climate change adaptation planning

In 2016


MUCCRI Gallery

Funded by the USAID/Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation Activity (ERICCA) MUCCRI organized two short courses at Makerere University. The first six-day short course was conducted from 20 – 25th June 2016 at Makerere University and was attended by 41 participants. The overall objective of the course was that Climate considerations are effectively integrated into national and local level development strategies, programmes and projects. The immediate objective of the course was that all course participants are equipped to effectively address Climate Change in the framework of sustainable development through their jobs.

The training covered the following main topics:

  • An introduction to Climate Change
  • Linkages between development and Climate Change
  • Sustainable development in view of a changing Climate
  • Climate Change adaptation
  • Climate Change mitigation; and
  • Climate Change and green growth (green development).

In 2015


MUCCRI Gallery

MUCCRI financially supported by the USAID/Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation Activity (ERICCA) organized a short course at Makerere University. The six-day short course was conducted from 25 – 30th July 2015 at Makerere University and was attended by 50 participants. The overall objective of the course was that Climate smart considerations are effectively integrated into agricultural development policy, programmes, projects and other farmer focused Climate Change response actions. The immediate objective is that all course participants are equipped to effectively address Climate Change in the framework of agricultural development through their jobs.

The training covered the following main topics:

  • Introduction to Climate Change globally and locally
  • Vulnerability of agriculture to a changing Climate
  • Agriculture focused Climate Change mitigation and adaptation as a sustainable development process
  • Climate Smart Agriculture – concepts and practices
  • Building Climate resilience among smallholder farmers
  • Integrating Climate Change in food and nutritional security programmes and projects; and
  • Towards low carbon agricultural development
