GCCA Uganda

Global Climate change Alliance (GCCA) supported a project on strengthening the resilience of rural populations to climate change in Uganda (2012-2016). The objective of the GCCA project was to contribute to the sustainable improvement of livelihoods and food security of the rural populations in Uganda, through strengthening the resilience of rural populations and agricultural production systems in the central part of the cattle corridor, more specifically, the districts of Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Luweero, Kiboga, Mubende and Sembabule. Over the 4-year period, this project:

  • promoted resilience of agricultural systems resilience to climate change impacts through Farmer Field Schools (FFS)
  • promoted the establishment of bioenergy plantations and adoption of improved charcoal production technologies
  • promoted establishment of forage – legume intercrops and fodder based agroforestry feed conservation
  • promoted micro-watershed management and small-scale irrigation development in the district
