The MUCCRI team comprises of the; Advisory board, Coordinator, Scientific committee, and the Staff.
The work of the Centre is overseen by an Advisory Board which comprises of: The Principal College of Agricultural Environmental Sciences, who Chairs the Steering Committee and representatives from the office of the Vice Chancellor, the School of Agricultural Production CAES, the School of Food Science and Bio-Systems Engineering CAES, the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences CAES Makerere University, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Water and Environment, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, the Ministry of Finance, the Climate Change Unit, the Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change, the National Council of Science and Technology A representative from the Private Sector Foundation, the Civil Society, and a representative from the Development Partners Climate Change Working Group.
The coordinator of the Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations, is the secretary to the Advisory Board meetings.
The scientific work at the Centre is overseen by a Scientific Committee that meets as often as necessary and comprises of the: The Makerere University Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Academic Affairs Deputy Director Research from the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, the Deputy Principal, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University, and representatives from the Department of Geography, Geo-Informatics and Climate Sciences, the Department of Forestry, Biodiversity and Tourism, the Department of Environmental Management, the Department of Agricultural Production, the Department of Agribusiness and Natural Resource Economics, the Department of Extension and Innovation Studies, the Department Food Technology and Human Nutrition, the Department Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering Coordinator Meteorology Unit Makerere University, and the National Agricultural Research Organization Coordinator Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations Makerere University.
The Scientific Committee:
Arthur M. Kato holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environment and Master of Science degree in Environment and Natural Resources from Makerere University. As an environmental scientist, Arthur specializes in: sustainable bioenergy production, supply and conservation; biodiversity conservation; climate change and adaptation (i.e. climate science, vulnerability assessments, building climate resilient communities), food security (i.e. climate smart and sustainable agriculture), community development (i.e. livelihood and youth empowerment), environmental economics, disaster risk management. His research interests include: air pollution linkages to climate change, climate smart inventions, innovative local communal interventions to climate change, the role of data science in climate and environmental interventions such as Disaster Risk Management, applications of R and ArcGIS packages in biostatistics, and youth or peer mentoring. Arthur has worked with the private sector, international non-government organizations, government and, currently with the, academia in the following capacities: intern, tax declaration assistant, business manager, documentation assistant, tutor and researcher. Arthur is a member of the Uganda Red Cross technical working group on the innovative Forecast-based Financing Approach for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Work at the Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations is the overall responsibility of the Principal of the College of Agricultural and Environment Sciences (CAES), Makerere University. The Centre is headed by a Coordinator who is a fulltime academic staff at the rank of senior Lecturer. The Day-today running of the Centre is done by the Centre Deputy Coordinator who is a fulltime employee of the Centre.
The Centre has a Communications officer who oversees communication work at the Centre including managing the Centre's website.
