MUCCRI is one of the responses to the country-wide and east Africa regional need for a well-known location for Climate Change research information, innovations, training, and outreach. The Centre also engages in packaging, communicating, and disseminating Climate Change information, knowledge products, and innovations to the wider public. A prime feature in our training and research activities is to provide domestic and regional policy makers with the necessary scientific support, technology, and guidance in adapting to and mitigating the impacts of Climate Change.
To prepare public professionals and private sector professionals in both the public and private organizations to adapt to the growing risks caused by a changing Climate, MUCCRI with support from the USAID/ Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation (ERICCA) Activity trains public and private sector experts from around Uganda and equips them with the understanding that Climate knowledge can be applied in many aspects of our lives. Field trips and sites tours are held during trainings to locations are the country that would provide the best local examples of either mitigation or adaptation actions combating the impacts of Climate Change.
Makerere University Center for Climate Change Research and Innovation (MUCCRI) short courses on Climate Change are organized for technical staff from central and local governments, as well as policy and decision makers and practitioners in Climate Change related organizations, programmes and projects. The courses are meant to increase their Climate Change awareness, and knowledge and skills to address Climate Change in their work. MUCCRI also designs and delivers short courses tailored to organizational and programme needs.

In 2017, MUCCRI financially supported by the USAID funded Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation Activity (ERICCA) has organized two short course;
The courses are targeting participants from central and local governments, academic and research institutions, civil society and private sector. Participants in the two courses and will be awarded certificates of attendance.

In 2016, MUCCRI financially supported by the USAID funded Uganda Education and Research to Improve Climate Change Adaptation Activity (ERICCA) organized two short courses;
Over 90 participants from central and local governments, academic and research institutions, civil society and private sector attended the two courses and were awarded certificates of attendance.
Professionals’ Conferences at MUCCRI target to incorporate the ideas of Professionals in the policy recommendation on mitigation or adaptation actions that combat the impacts of Climate Change.
MUCCRI Professionals’ conferences are multi-dimensional involving discussions on how the professionals’ can engage in climate change adaptation, but importantly looking at ways of building long lasting, beneficial, and sustainable systems that can benefit young people while enhancing their ability to participate in climate change response actions and enhancing ecosystem resilience. The conferences play a vital role in building a stronger network among professional participants and sharing their knowledge and ideas.
